In the spring of 2014, Wisconsin Brewing Company’s Brewmaster Kirby Nelson had just finished speaking at the University of Wisconsin’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS), when he ran into some students fresh out of fermentation class. They had created a milk stout and offered Kirby a sample of their brew.

“It was very good,” recalls Kirby. “I told them to come out to the brewery and we’d put it in the ‘big’ tanks.”

That offhand remark turned into an idea that became Campus Craft Brewery  a groundbreaking public-private partnership between Wisconsin Brewing Company and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Students from the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and School of Journalism & Mass Communication work with Wisconsin Brewing Company to formulate, product, brand and market a new beer each year.

The result of this year’s partnership? You guessed it. RE: FRESH Radler – a light and juicy, thirst-quenching blend of real grapefruit soda and a classic lager beer. RE: FRESH is available throughout Wisconsin in 16oz cans and on draft.
